The slimline fuel storage solution – perfect for getting into tight spots

Kingspan Titan has launched new ultra-slim versions of its market-leading FuelMaster storage tanks.

The 4000 and 1225 litre slimline FuelMaster tanks offer neat, compact on-site fuel storage for farmers and small businesses.

Their narrow footprint and innovative sleek design means they are less conspicuous than conventional fuel storage tanks, and could be hidden away out-of-sight close to farm buildings, improving fuel security.  Both tanks come with reversible factory-fitted cabinet doors, giving farmers additional flexibility in terms of where they are placed.

Further protection to fuel supplies is offered by the tanks lockable cabinets and Watchman tank technology, fitted as standard to all FuelMaster tanks to allow farmers to constantly monitor the fuel levels within the tank.  Their 10 micron particulate/water filters protect vehicle engines from damage caused by contaminants.

In common with the rest of the FuelMaster range, the new slimline tanks are manufactured to a very high-spec and meet all UK regulatory standards for on-site fuel storage.  Manufactured from tough rotationally-moulded plastic the tanks are bunded and come with a Spillstop device to prevent overfilling and spills.  Dispensing is also made easier with the option of adding additional hose lengths which can be stored in the large cabinet, and there is a light inside the hood to help farmers fill up their vehicles in the dark.

“These are high quality tanks, manufactured to the most rigorous standards which provide very flexible, unobtrusive fuel storage solutions for farmers,” says Tony Soper, Kingspan Titan Sales Director, GB.  “We know that fuel security is a growing headache for farmers and rural communities, and it may help that these tanks can be tucked away on the farmyard, perhaps behind a barn.

“The tanks can also be fitted with systems to help with fuel management, again to help make life a bit easier.  Should a farmer want it, we can fit the tank with a tank monitoring device to allow them to keep an eye on the levels of fuel in the tank either locally or remotely. It means they can order their supplies in good time and not risk running out.”

The new FuelMaster slimline tanks will be on display at various agricultural and country shows across Great Britain and Ireland this summer including Cereals 2013 (11–14 June), The Royal Highland Show (19–23 June), The Royal Norfolk Show (25–27  June), and The National Ploughing Championships Ireland (24-26 September).

Kingspan Klargester’s New Shallow Dig Septic Tanks – making installation easier and cheaper

Kignspan Klargester, the global-leading specialists in the design and manufacture of off-mains drainage solutions, has launched the Sigma shallow dig septic tank – a cylindrical shaped tank with a lower-profile for quicker, cheaper, off-mains installations.

The new design of the Sigma tank means that it requires a shallower dig and less excavation, as well as far less peashingle or concrete backfill to secure it in place.

Sigma septic tanks are also ideally suited to rocky strata conditions where deep digs are not be possible.  The range is fully approved to EN12566 Part 1 standard and is 99.7 per cent efficient at retaining solids in the tank.

“The Sigma has been designed to make installations more cost-effective and easier for builders and installers,” says Dave Vincent Commercial Director.  “Not only is it a shallower dig, it can be backfilled with peashingle rather than concrete on dry sites making the installation a lot cheaper.  All in all, we calculate that it’s possible to save up to £300 installing a Sigma, based on a typical 2,800 litre septic tank, which we think will be welcomed.”

Klargester’s experienced sales advisors can offer comprehensive advice on percolation testing and installation guidance and delivery is free anywhere in the UK – usually within three days of the product being ordered.

The Sigma shallow dig septic tank comes in a wide range of sizes from 2,800 to 9,100 litres, with a standard invert height across the range of just 500mm.

Dave continues:  “We would always recommend a sewage treatment plant as the first option for private sewage arrangements because of their greater effectiveness in treating the sewage.  Septic tanks are not a universal solution for all off-mains drainage applications, but we recognise there is still a demand for them and have worked hard to provide a modern, improved product for our customers. If in any doubt about the suitability of a septic tank we offer a free site visit and will explain the options to the customer.”

Klargester Sewage Treatment Plant to Service TV’s Most Famous Farm

The location for ITV’s hugely popular soap Emmerdale has had a Kingspan Klargester sewage treatment plant installed to service the expanding set and studios.

Rob Siswick the Klargester area sales manager made a number of visits to the site near Wetherby in Yorkshire to offer expert advice on their off-mains drainage requirements. The location had been serviced very successfully for many years by a Klargester Biodisc but further development of the site meant there was a need for greater treatment plant capacity.

After discussions with the architects and the site operators Rob recommended replacement of the Biodisc with a new Envirosafe HEQ sewage treatment plant, to serve the needs of 150 people, including film crew and actors.

The plant was installed by R A Dalton in late 2012, one of Klargester’s longest-serving and most reputable installers.

Virginia International Logistics Choses Fuel Management Solutions from Kingspan GSP

Market leading fuel storage and management solutions, Kingspan GSP, was chosen by Virginia Logistics as their main supplier for their two depots in Virginia and Dublin. They were in need of managing and checking stock levels for large amounts of diesel and AdBlue on a regular basis.

After consultation with Ken Charman Accounts Manager for Virginia Logistics, Jonathan Heasley, Sales Manager for GSP, recommended a bespoke fuel management solution that would suit their needs. A tank monitoring system with GPRS modem would manage their diesel consumption. The unique benefit of this is that Virginia Logistics can log onto Kingspan GSP’s secure web server to monitor the fuel levels as often as required.

To help manage Virginia Logistics’ storage of AdBlue Jonathan Heasley recommended a bulk 5000 litre AdBlue solution. This large capacity storage and dispensing tank means that they would no longer need smaller IBC’s with separate pumps, saving them time and money.

Ken Charman says “I have been very impressed with the package supplied by Kingspan GSP as it gives us full traceability on three different fuel stocks. It is the perfect complete fuel management solution for our business.”

Kingspan Water Rainwater Harvesting Installed in Kingspan Potton Build A Barn Project

In 2011 Potton embarked on a new challenge – to create a traditional barn style home, but designed and built to ultra modern standards. Located near St Neots, Cambridgeshire this new ultra energy efficient low carbon home, designed as a contemporary barn, would exceed the requirements for Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH). With a slowed build schedule to 8 months, the project would also allow self-builders and construction professionals to visit and learn the products and materials that would normally be installed in just 12 weeks.

The CSH measures the sustainability of a new home against nine design categories, rating the “whole home” as a complete package. The CSH not only sets minimum standards for energy use, but also water use at each level. In order to meet the level of water effienency, the Potton team selected a Kingspan Water rainwater harvesting system.

Completed in May 2012, visitors could see how sustainable living can be delivered within a stunning and luxurious home.

As an example of this balance, the house boasts three toilets – but each is flushed with rainwater from the Kingspan Water rainwater harvesting system. Completely hidden from view, the system captures, filters and stores water from the roof and guttering in an underground tank. The water is transported via a soundless pump to a header tank in the roof and is used to supply free rainwater to all non-potable appliances.

Use a hosepipe legally with rainwater harvesting- and lighten your load!

For many, particularly in the South, record levels of rainfall in April have been an ironic follow-on to the hosepipe ban.
It has led some people to question why the hosepipe ban is still in place. The answer is that one month of heavy downpours cannot make-up for the water deficit caused by two very dry winters; we still have a long way to go. However, as has been pointed out, if more of us chose to harvest the rain – using water in a more sustainable way all year round, rather than allow it simply to drain away – then we might not have had a ban in the first place. Nor, indeed, some of the localised flooding which has accompanied the cloud bursts.

The message that we need to make greater use of rainwater is certainly one that gardeners are embracing – witness the fact that water butts are selling fast, and that demand for water butts is exceeding supply in some areas.
But what is good for the garden is not necessarily an easy option for the gardener!

Carrying a watering can backwards and forwards is physically very demanding; when full, a 10 litre watering can weighs 10kg, or 1.5 stone. And of course the weight is carried to one-side – the unevenness adding to the strain they create. Perhaps that is one reason why, when records of accidents were last recorded back in 2002, watering cans accounted for 718 incidents (source: RoSPA).

The other issue, of course, is the time it takes using a watering can to water the garden – not ideal for those who have to juggle multiple demands in addition to their garden.

For all these reasons, the latest product advance in rainwater storage is expected to come as welcome news – a rainwater harvesting tank that now connects to a hosepipe.

The Rainstore, from Kingspan Water, the UK’s leading manufacturer of rainwater harvesting systems, has an integral pump and hosepipe connection.

The largest of the Rainstore range – the 1000 litre tank – holds the equivalent of 100 watering cans. This would be a lot of watering cans to carry (the equivalent of a tonne in weight!) however the hosepipe makes it easy,
Rainstore will also be welcomed by those who need a bigger butt – those who currently link multiple water butts together to collect enough water for their plot. The tanks come in 700 and 1000 litre sizes – the 1000 litre size is the equivalent of five standard water butts, which is more than enough for most gardens.

“Carrying heavy watering cans can be difficult, irksome and slow so this should be a major advance for many – particularly in the east and central areas of the country – who want to water their gardens, and wash their cars or patios this summer,” says Adrian Gatford, national sales manager for Kingspan Water.

He continues: “As the effects of global warming continue to manifest themselves, the water crisis is expected to deepen. Drought is now interspersed with a trend for short, sharp bursts of rain that overwhelm our Victorian sewers, as well as causing soil erosion and flooding, but the downpours do little to fill our resevoirs. Reducing our reliance on domestic treated water and making better use of rainwater are two of the most significant ways we can all adapt to changes invoked by rising global temperatures.”

Kingspan Water has been leading the way in rainwater harvesting systems for many years. Its Envireau system captures water from the roof and recycles it for widespread use within the home, including flushing WCs, and washing clothes, as well as of course for use irrigating the garden.

How Green is Your Coffee Shop? Kingspan Water offer FREE Rainwater Harvesting Feasibility Surveys

We have partnered with Cafédirect in developing an EcoToolkit that helps cafes, restaurants and venues reduce their water consumption by harvesting rainwater.

Cafédirect carried out a study to identify the environmental impact of its products; it might surprise you that the biggest impact doesn’t come from shipping or even growing. It’s in fact in the consumption and particularly in cafes and venues that serve coffee. It might be the electrical energy required by the espresso machines or the amount of water used to flush customer toilets.

As Cafédirect doesn’t own the outlets, this was an area they could not directly control, so instead they created an EcoToolkit which would help venues identify simple ways they can reduce their environmental impacts. The toolkit covers Water, Waste, Energy and Procurement. The water section gives advice and actions, many of which also help save the venue money. The recommendations range from suggestions such as fixing leaks to installing one of our above ground rainwater harvesting systems.

If you run a venue that serves hot drinks, see what more you can do to reduce your water consumption and help save money on water bills by taking advantage of our free feasibility survey.

We are also offering venues that use the EcoToolkit a 10% discount on a suitable rainwater harvesting system.
